Introduction

A wedding is dozens of decisions spread across many months — and the couples who stay calm are the ones who start early and follow a plan. Miss the window to book a venue or a photographer and your choices shrink fast.

This free Wedding Timeline Planner turns your wedding date into a clear, month-by-month checklist. Enter the date and see exactly what to do and by when, from booking the venue a year out to packing your emergency kit the week of. Tick tasks off as you go — it is printable, shareable, and everything stays in your browser.

What Is This Tool?

The Wedding Timeline Planner is a countdown checklist for Indian weddings. Starting from your wedding date, it lays out the standard planning milestones in order — roughly a year before down to the wedding day itself — grouped into stages like 12 months, 6 months, 1 month and the final week.

Each stage lists the tasks that belong there, with a target date calculated from your wedding day, so you always know what should be done and by when. It covers the events an Indian wedding really includes — venue, catering, outfits, jewellery, mehndi, sangeet, invitations and more.

Why Use It?

Wedding planning goes wrong when everything is left to the last minute. This planner helps you:

  • Start at the right time, so the best venues and vendors are still available.
  • See the whole journey at once, instead of remembering tasks one by one.
  • Get real target dates from your wedding date, not vague advice.
  • Track progress by ticking tasks off, with your checklist saved in your browser.
  • Share or print the plan for family and your wedding planner.

How It Works

Enter your wedding date and the planner counts backwards. Each stage is anchored a set time before the wedding, so it converts that into a real target date — for example, the six-months-before stage becomes an actual month on your calendar.

Tasks are grouped by stage and shown in order. Tick a task and your progress bar updates; your ticks and date are remembered in your browser, so the list is still there when you return. Use the print button for a paper copy, or share a link that reopens the plan for your date.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Enter your wedding date.
  2. Review each stage, from about a year before down to the wedding day.
  3. Note the target date shown for each stage and work towards it.
  4. Tick tasks off as you complete them and watch your progress grow.
  5. Print the checklist or share the link with family and your planner.
  6. Come back anytime — your date and ticked tasks stay saved in your browser.

The Formula

There is no money maths here — the planner works on dates:

  • Target Date for a stage = Wedding Date − time before the wedding
  • Progress = Tasks Ticked ÷ Total Tasks × 100

For example, if your wedding is on 15 December and a stage is set six months before, its target date is around 15 June. The nearer stages (one month, one week, the day itself) are counted in weeks and days from the same date.

Worked Examples

Example 1 — A December wedding: the twelve-months-before stage lands the previous December (book venue and set budget), the six-months stage falls around June (outfits, makeup and mehndi artists), and the final-week tasks sit in early December.

Example 2 — A short four-month engagement: enter the date and the planner turns the early stages into do-this-now priorities — venue, caterer and photographer become immediate, while later stages still line up correctly.

Example 3 — Planning several functions: run the planner for your main wedding date; pre-wedding events like mehndi and sangeet usually fall in the same final weeks, so their prep sits naturally in the one-month and one-week stages.

Expert Tips

  • Start with the venue and date — almost everything else depends on them, so lock them first.
  • Book high-demand vendors early — top photographers, caterers and makeup artists are reserved a year ahead in peak season.
  • Keep bookings and payments in one place, and pair this planner with our wedding budget calculator.
  • Build in buffer weeks before the wedding for fittings, delays and surprises.
  • Delegate — assign a trusted family member or friend as the point person for the wedding day.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Starting too late — the biggest regret is losing preferred venues and vendors to earlier bookings.
  • Leaving invitations to the last month — printing and delivery take longer than expected, especially for large lists.
  • Forgetting pre-wedding functions — mehndi, haldi and sangeet each need their own bookings and outfits.
  • Having no final-week plan — payments, tips, documents and an emergency kit are easy to forget in the rush.
  • Trying to do everything yourself — an unshared plan collapses under wedding-week pressure.
