Wedding Music Planning — Why Is It So Overwhelming?

When my brother's wedding was fixed, the very first thing that came to mind was — "What do we do about the music?" Which song plays during the baraat, what happens at the sangeet, which melody sets the mood for the vidaai — all of these decisions feel so overwhelming that you don't even know where to begin.

And then the DJ asks for a list. "Bhai, send me the playlist." And you just sit there staring at your phone.

At my brother's wedding, this exact thing happened. Everyone said they wanted to dance to a specific song, someone else had a different request, but nobody actually made a list. By the end of it, the confusion was so bad that people were just dancing to whatever song came on — nobody was prepared.

The solution to this problem is wedding music apps. Today I'm reviewing the top 10 apps that can genuinely make your planning easier. Every app has been looked at honestly — features, pros, cons, all of it.

Top 10 Wedding Music Apps — Honest Review 2026

1. Spotify — Best Overall Music App

Price: Free / Premium ₹119/month

Spotify is the most widely used app for wedding music planning — and the reason is obvious. Its library is so massive that whether you're looking for Bollywood, regional, or English songs, you will find it.

Best features for weddings:

  • Collaborative playlist — you, your partner, and your entire family can build one playlist together
  • Ready-made "Wedding Songs" playlists are already available
  • Offline download — your DJ doesn't need internet on the day

What's missing:

  • Free version has ads that can completely kill the mood
  • No guest song request feature

My friend Rahul created a collaborative Spotify playlist for his wedding — because of that, everyone added their favourite songs. It was actually a lot of fun and the DJ ended up with a perfectly organised list.

Rating: 9/10

2. Apple Music — Best for iPhone Users

Price: ₹99/month

If you're an iPhone user, Apple Music's experience is even smoother than Spotify. The sound quality is noticeably better and you can control everything with Siri.

Best features for weddings:

  • Lossless audio quality — sounds incredible on a high-end sound system
  • iCloud Music Library — stays synced across all your devices
  • Family sharing — 6 people can use it for ₹149/month

What's missing:

  • The Android experience isn't as smooth
  • Collaborative playlist feature isn't as strong as Spotify's

Rating: 8/10

3. WedMeGood — Best Indian Wedding Planning App

Price: Free

This app was built specifically for Indian weddings. Beyond music planning, it also helps with vendor management, budget tracking, and checklists.

Best features for weddings:

  • Music checklist organised by function — mehndi, sangeet, baraat, vidaai
  • You can contact local DJs and singers directly through the app
  • Reviews from real couples — not fake ratings

What's missing:

  • No music streaming — it's purely a planning tool
  • Vendor database is limited in smaller cities

Rahul also used WedMeGood to find vendors — it was genuinely helpful because the reviews felt completely real, not like something made up.

Rating: 8/10

4. YouTube Music — Best Free Option

Price: Free / Premium ₹99/month

YouTube Music's biggest advantage is that practically every Bollywood song ever made is on here — old or new. And it works reasonably well even on the free version.

Best features for weddings:

  • Old classic wedding songs are all available
  • Music videos are there too — perfect for sangeet practice
  • Offline download available on Premium

What's missing:

  • Free version doesn't allow background play — close the screen and the music stops
  • Way too many ads on the free version

Rating: 7/10

5. Amazon Music — Best Value for Money

Price: Free for Prime subscribers / Unlimited at ₹999/year

If you already have Amazon Prime, Amazon Music comes completely free — that's its biggest advantage.

Best features for weddings:

  • Already included with Prime — zero extra cost
  • Alexa integration — change songs with your voice
  • Offline playlist download available

What's missing:

  • Library is slightly smaller than Spotify's
  • Interface isn't as user-friendly

Rating: 7.5/10

6. Gaana — Best for Bollywood and Regional Music

Price: Free / Plus ₹99/month

Gaana is India's own music app and alongside Bollywood it has Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu — all regional music in one place. For wedding songs specifically, this is a very strong app.

Best features for weddings:

  • Dedicated "Wedding Songs" section already built in
  • Best regional language song library out there
  • Plenty of songs available even on the free version

What's missing:

  • International songs are limited
  • App feels a little slow sometimes

At home we use Gaana a lot because its Punjabi and Bhojpuri song library is incredibly strong — it's absolutely perfect for the baraat and sangeet.

Rating: 7.5/10

7. JioSaavn — Best for Hindi and Regional Combo

Price: Free / Pro ₹299/year

JioSaavn is hugely popular in India and Jio users already get access included. Hindi, English, and regional — everything in one place.

Best features for weddings:

  • Free access for Jio users
  • Collaborative playlist feature is available
  • Radio stations available based on mood
  • Lyrics feature — very helpful for sangeet practice

What's missing:

  • Sound quality feels slightly lower than Spotify
  • Ads are very frequent on the free version

Rating: 7/10

8. SoundCloud — Best for Unique Remixes and Mashups

Price: Free / Go+ ₹540/month

If you're looking for a specific remix — like a "Jugnu x Kesariya mashup" or some unique version of a song — SoundCloud is the first place to check. Independent artists upload original remixes here that you simply won't find anywhere else.

Best features for weddings:

  • Unique remixes and mashups are available
  • DJ sets are there too — great for reference
  • Original content from independent artists

What's missing:

  • Mainstream Bollywood songs are limited
  • Interface can be confusing for beginners

Rating: 6.5/10

9. Shazam — Best for "What Song Is This?" Moments

Price: Free

This is technically not a music streaming app — but it is absolutely essential for wedding planning. Hear any song playing anywhere and Shazam tells you exactly what it is within 5 seconds.

Best features for weddings:

  • Hear a great song at any function — Shazam it and add it to your list instantly
  • Saves directly to Spotify or Apple Music
  • Also shows lyrics

At Rahul's wedding there was a song playing that I absolutely loved but had no idea what it was called. A friend suggested Shazam — I pointed my phone at the speaker and within seconds I had the song name. It's now on my own wedding playlist.

Rating: 9/10(for what it does)

10. Wedlist — Best Dedicated Wedding Music App

Price: Free / Premium $4.99/month

This app was built specifically for wedding music planning. Guests can submit their song requests directly through the app and you can approve or reject them.

Best features for weddings:

  • Guest song request system — completely unique feature
  • You can create a Do Not Play list — songs you absolutely don't want
  • Share directly with your DJ
  • Playlist organisation by function

What's missing:

  • Not very well known in India yet
  • Premium version is paid
  • Not all DJs are familiar with this app

The guest song request concept genuinely impressed me — because at every wedding there's always that one uncle who walks up to the DJ and insists on his favourite song. This app makes the whole thing organised and stress-free.

Rating: 8/10

Quick Comparison — Which App for What

Best Overall: Spotify Best Free Option: YouTube Music Best for Bollywood/Regional: Gaana or JioSaavn Best for iPhone Users: Apple Music Best Value (Have Prime already): Amazon Music Best for Unique Remixes: SoundCloud Best for Identifying Songs: Shazam Best for Guest Requests: Wedlist Best Indian Wedding Planning: WedMeGood

My Personal Recommendation

Personally I would suggest the Spotify + Shazam combo to everyone. Whenever you hear a great song anywhere — Shazam it, add it to your Spotify playlist. By the time the wedding arrives, your playlist will build itself without any extra effort.

Honestly one app is never enough — use a combination:

  • Spotify — for building your main playlist
  • Shazam — for identifying songs on the spot
  • WedMeGood — for finding DJs and vendors
  • Wedlist — for managing guest song requests

Final Thoughts

Wedding music planning doesn't have to be a stressful task — with the right app, the whole process becomes genuinely enjoyable. Choosing each song, attaching a memory to it — all of this is a beautiful part of the wedding journey.

So pick up your phone, open Spotify, and start building your dream wedding playlist. With every song you add, a memory is already being made.

Before Rahul's wedding I had already prepared the full song playlist for him — and on the wedding day, neither of us had to worry about music for a single second. Neither did the DJ. That's the power of planning ahead.

And of course — Wedmewed already has the best wedding songs, baraat playlists, and sangeet collections curated for you. Visit us to give your DJ the perfect setlist for your big day!
